Day to day itinerary

Welcome to Sarawak! Upon landing at Kuching International Airport, a warm welcome awaits you from your dedicated Travel Astu representative, who will escort you via private vehicle to your hotel for check-in. Once refreshed, begin your Bornean exploration at the beautiful Kuching Waterfront. This buzzing riverside promenade features a perfect mix of colonial-era architecture, local street food, and gorgeous views of the Sarawak River.

From here, journey to the award-winning Sarawak Cultural Village. Spread across a lush 17-acre site, this "living museum" showcases meticulously replicated traditional longhouses representing Sarawak’s major indigenous groups, including the Iban, Bidayuh, Orang Ulu, and Melanau. Interact with local craftsmen, witness traditional blowpipe demonstrations, and enjoy an electrifying cultural dance performance inside the village theater.

Overnight: Selected Kuching Hotel.

Savor breakfast before setting off on an early private drive southwest toward the rugged peaks of Gunung Gading National Park. This strictly protected conservation zone is globally renowned for protecting the Rafflesia tuan-mudae—a rare parasitic plant whose cabbage-sized buds take nine months to mature, opening into a spectacular bloom up to one meter wide that lasts for just 3 to 5 days. Accompanied by expert park rangers who track these erratic blooms daily, you will navigate the rainforest trails and scenic waterfalls.

On the return route, enjoy a lighthearted change of pace with a visit to the whimsical Kuching Cat Museum. Perched atop a hill, this museum honors the city's namesake ("Kuching" means cat in Malay) through a massive collection of art, historical artifacts, and pop-culture exhibits exploring the feline's global cultural significance.

Overnight: Selected Kuching Hotel.

After breakfast, your private vehicle heads toward the misty foothills of the Borneo Highlands. Arrive at the Bidayuh Annah Rais Longhouse, a remarkable architectural marvel constructed entirely from bamboo and timber, where generations of the Bidayuh tribe have lived communally. Walk the open verandas (Tanju), learn about their ancient customs, view ancestral artifacts, and experience their world-famous hospitality.

Returning to the city center, pause to pay your respects at the historic Tua Pek Kong Temple, Kuching's oldest Chinese temple, sitting proudly on a foothill overlooking the river opposite the Chinese History Museum. Conclude your final afternoon at the vibrant Main Bazaar. This row of heritage shophouses is the ultimate destination to discover handmade tribal beadwork, Pua Kumbu woven textiles, local pepper, and rare Bornean antiques.

Overnight: Selected Kuching Hotel.

Enjoy a relaxed final breakfast at your hotel. Depending on your flight schedule, take a last morning stroll along the historic streets to capture photos or pick up some local Sarawak layer cake (Kek Lapis). Your private Travel Astu vehicle will pick you up directly from your hotel lobby, ensuring a smooth, stress-free transfer to Kuching International Airport for your return journey home.
