Day-to-Day Expedition Program

Welcome to India. A Travel Astu representative will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. If morning arrival, we will plan your tour of Delhi visiting - Akshardham Temple, India Gate, President House, Malai Mandir etc.

The highlight of your first evening is a private dinner with a local Hindu family, featuring an authentic Indian cooking demonstration. This is a perfect way to carb-load and connect with local culture before heading to the mountains.

After a buffet breakfast, begin your journey north in a premium AC private vehicle. We drive to the "City Beautiful," Chandigarh, the gateway to the Himalayas. Enjoy a quiet evening and a final night in the plains.

A scenic drive takes you into the heart of the Kullu Valley. Watch the landscape change from tropical greens to towering cedar forests. Upon arrival in Manali, check into your boutique hotel and meet your Astu road captain and cycling mechanic for a bike fit and briefing.

A day of active rest. We use a private car to visit the Hadimba Devi Temple and local heritage sites. This helps your lungs begin the acclimatization process. Final gear checks are completed today.

The expedition begins. You start the steady climb toward the Rohtang Pass. Cycle through lush pine forests and waterfalls to reach the meadow of Marhi, your first high-altitude camp.

Overnight: Marhi (Luxury Camp)

Conquer your first major pass, Rohtang (13,050 ft). After the summit, enjoy a thrilling descent into the Lahaul Valley. Ride through the engineering marvel of the Atal Tunnel approach and continue to the riverside village of Gondla.

Overnight: Gondla (Premium Guest House/Camp)

A beautiful ride along the banks of the Bhaga River. The terrain becomes more arid and mountainous as you reach Jispa, a favorite stop for trans-Himalayan adventurers.

The road climbs toward the Baralacha La. This short but steep day takes you to Zingzangbar, a remote settlement located at the base of the high passes.

Overnight: Zingzangbar (Expedition Tents)

One of the most challenging and iconic days. Cross the Baralacha La (16,040 ft) and descend to the Sarchu plains. You then face the famous Gata Loops—21 sharp switchbacks—as you climb toward Brandy Nala.

Overnight: Brandy Nala (Expedition Tents)

Today you conquer two major passes: Nakee La (15,547 ft) and Lachulung La (16,616 ft). The landscape is now completely lunar and high-desert. Descend through the dramatic "Gorges of Pang."

Overnight: Pang (Luxury Expedition Camp)

Experience one of the most unique stretches of road on Earth—the More Plains. This 40km high-altitude plateau is perfectly flat and surrounded by snow-capped peaks. Cycle to the base of the final giant, Tanglang La.

Overnight: Base Camp (Expedition Tents)

The ultimate test. A steady ascent takes you to the summit of Tanglang La (17,480 ft). Celebrate your achievement at the world's second-highest motorable pass before a massive, exhilarating 60km descent all the way down to Upshi.

Overnight: Upshi (Premium Camp/Guest House)

Your final riding day follows the Indus River. Pass through ancient monasteries like Thiksey and Hemis as you make your "Victory Entry" into the historic capital of Leh.

Overnight: Leh (3, 4, or 5-Star Hotel)

A day of well-earned rest and cultural discovery. Join your licensed city guide to explore the Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa, and the vibrant local bazaar for souvenirs and celebratory treats.
